Conducting Internal Investigations (2023)

Type: Webinar Recordings
Price: $66.00

Description

As an executive or a board member of a nonprofit, the last thing you want to see come across your desk is a complaint of wrongdoing. Questions may arise like:

What do you do?

Who do you tell?

How do you respond?

Does the content of the complaint dictate the appropriate response?

What will be the long-term effects?

Do you have policies in place to answer those questions?

Whether the complaint alleges financial wrongdoing, sexual misconduct, or some other whistleblower concern, two attorneys with extensive experience in performing and advising on investigations – Ashley Lynam and Kacie Kergides of Montogomery McCracken – will discuss appropriate steps you need to take to initially respond to the complaint. They will also explain how to conduct a proper investigation to avoid missteps and minimize impact on the organization, both internally and externally. They will talk about when and how to employ outside counsel to advise or perform the work. Ultimately, the goal is to avoid these complaints arising in the first place, and, as such, they will also advise on what safeguards and policies to put in place to help prevent — or at least identify — the issues early before they lead to a complaint.

Lawyers and other professional advisers to nonprofits who only occasionally deal with these issues may also want to pick up tips from attorneys who deal with investigations almost every day and to ask specific questions on how to deal with difficult situations.
