Nonprofits should consider every year an election year. And every session of the Congress, state legislature, or local government offers the possibility of public policy change that can significantly affect the work of nonprofits organizations.

Naturally, nonprofits are concerned about what they may and may not do to influence elections and public policy. This webinar will discuss those issues with particular emphasis on the limitations on lobbying and electioneering by charities. It will also offer practical advice on setting up relationships with legislators so that your voice can be heard when an issue is pending that can affect your work.

Nonprofit Issues® editor Don Kramer will discuss how charities can lose their federal income tax exemption if they participate in political campaigns at any level. He will also discuss how charities may take positions on legislative issues and why they may not be doing their job if they fail to do so. What counts as "lobbying" under the federal regulations? Do they have to worry about lobbying registration requirements?

Materials (PowerPoint and other handouts), along with instructions on how to login and call-in, will be emailed to attendees a few days prior to the date of the webinar. PANO uses Zoom as our webinar platform; you can familiarize yourself with Zoom and/or join a test meeting prior to these sessions.
