For many, the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act generated more questions than answers.  Then came the new accounting standards in 2018.  Now, perhaps more than ever before, it is crucial that nonprofit board members and staff have a basic understanding of their organization’s financial reporting requirements in order to keep up with an ever-changing regulatory environment. Join Partner Christopher A. Elwell, CPA from Maloney, Reed, Scarpitti & Company, LLP for a “crash course” in the fundamentals of nonprofit accounting and reporting, including the key responsibilities for board and staff.

Networking Break | 11:00 AM – 11:25 AM

Workshops | 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

What Does Tax Reform Mean for Nonprofits?
Presented by: Anne L. Gingerich, MSW, Executive Director, PANO.
On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, the House and Senate passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This tax overhaul has major implications for all 501(c)(3) nonprofits. The tax reform bill will reduce charitable giving, eliminate the ACA’s individual mandate, create new taxes on certain nonprofit activities, and more. Anne will discuss the changes and how they will impact your organization.

Calculated Risk-Taking for Financial Sustainability
Presented by: Debra Thompson, Strategy Solutions
In this highly interactive workshop, featuring an audience response polling system, participants will identify trends and opportunities in the current environment. Despite funding cuts and other challenges, together we’ll learn how to quantify community needs, articulate how your mission and program(s) address those needs, determine the true costs of running your program(s), get past your “immunity to change”, and identify the return on investment to drive your case for support.

Investment Expectations for 2019 & Are you meeting your Fiduciary Duty?
Presented by: Don Nicholson, Senior Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer, Northwest Bank & Nathan Weaver – Vice-President and Manager of Trust Administration, Northwest Bank
Don will discuss investment expectations for 2019 and how it may affect the determination of Spending Rates for Nonprofits. Nathan will present on Nonprofit governance and fiduciary duties.
